We admired the Santa Fe style for many years, and when we acquired property in the high desert town of Yucca Valley, California, we set out to design and build our Pueblo Revival home. John, an industrial artist, designed the home to achieve the village (pueblo) effect, thus six separate roof and parapet wall elevations were incorporated. Many green elements are in the design. Effects of solar seasons and prevailing winds were maximized by structure orientation, wall placement, and south and east glazing surfaces. The kitchen windows are shaded from the glaring southern exposure by a walled-in and sun-screened herb garden—our cat thinks it was especially made for her enjoyment. Our dipping pool is heated by the solar panels on the garage roof. They say if you’re lucky enough to own a pool, you’re lucky enough. We feel more than lucky—we have been truly blessed with this wonderful home.
